The crew servicing the passengers provided excellent service except for the attendants in the Explorer's lounge; many of whom lacked enthusiasm and gave incorrect directions such as what deck disembarkation would be. We suspect that Viking ocean has received its high marks from its shorter duration cruises, where providing food, entertainment, and activities is not as difficult. All passenger cabins are with a private veranda, and about 1/5th larger than average standard staterooms on the ocean cruising market. This venue could be transformed into an outdoor casual dining place thanks to its floor-to-ceiling sliding windows.

On both the Viking Star and Viking Sea, we never felt the urge to try local restaurants ashore – the ship’s food was that good. In 2016, Viking OCEAN with Viking Star inaugurated the company's first-ever USA-Caribbean season. The vessel arrived in NYC (Manhattan Cruise Terminal) on October 13, 2016. Perhaps the most stunning inclusion is the Nordic spa, which boasts a thalassotherapy pool, a steam room, a hot tub, a sauna, heated ceramic lounge chairs and a cold plunge pool, as well as the first "snow grotto" at sea.
